Structure
The SIC is not-for-profit research organisation registered in Burkina Faso under the unique financial identifier (IFU n° 00166343Y). It has a hierarchical structure (Figure 1) with various departments and research groups working collaboratively. The specific organizational structure consists of the following components
Executive management structure
which oversees the SIC, is composed of the SAB, the Board of Trustees, the executive leadership, the Internal audit and Programme management
Main Directorates
Scientific Directorate, Technology Transfer Directorate, Administration & Finance Directorate and Quality Management Directorate.
Research Departments
Each department conducts research, implements control measures, and develops interventions related to their area of expertise. Up to six departments are defined (Medical entomology, Microbiology & Parasitology, Data Computational Science, Biotechnology, Social Science and Public Health and Clinical Research). Each department is led by a renowned researcher with national and international recognition. The Department of Biotechnology at SIC is holding our signature programme which aims to develop systems and approaches for rearing, releasing, and monitoring sterile/engineered mosquitoes. The Department envisions to contribute in building scientific capacity in molecular biology, genetics, and transgenesis at national and Africa levels to ensure ownership and long-term safe use of the technology. Its activities include:
- Mosquito genome sequencing
- Genetic modification of mosquitoes
- Development of new control strategies and monitoring service facilities
- Building capacity in the regulation and approval of genetically modified organisms
- Training and national and international collaboration
Research Units
Consist of scientists and field researchers who conduct studies in endemic regions, collect data, perform entomological surveillance, and evaluate vector control interventions.
Data Management and Analysis
This unit ensures the collection, storage, and analysis of data generated from research activities.
